I got to see the beginnings of my blue eyed white holland project with the patriarch, Sharkie, who'd been imported from Holland the year before. I've yet to see a blue eyed white buck as nice as him since. Unless I could find another as nice as him, there'd be no sense in trying them again.
I'd forgotten what placings some of them had had at Nationals and Conventions until reminded by the narration. There were the very young juniors that were destined for the 1998 Portland, OR Convention. I traveled so far but took only 4 hollands with me. When I think about how few I took and how well they placed, it seems enormous to me now. A black solid jr buck took 21 and his b/c tort littermate brother took 6th. The large class of 120 solid jr does, I entered two, a sablept jr doe took 8th while BBF's Tova took 1st place, Best Opp Solid and Best Fur class. Wow, that was exciting!
It was nice to see the old sire bucks again, especially when many of them were so young and just starting out in their show careers. A few does had me wondering, what was I thinking keeping them for breeding, then a solemn nod as I remember some of their offspring a few generations forward.
It was like meeting long ago friends again. As 2012 draws to a close, it seems fitting to think of the much sung "Auld Lang Syne".
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne ?
It was peaceful seeing these auld bunny acquaintances brought to mind once again on an old VHS tape and they won't be forgot by this sentimental bunny person.
Happy New Year!
