Where did I read this? Although I raise just Hollands Lops I read all the specialty breed club reports in the Domestic Rabbit magazine. This is a magazine that every member of American Rabbit Breeders Assoc. receives bi-monthly. It contains ARBA officer reports, specialty breed club reports, rabbit care articles, breed articles, ads and more. You can check out joining at www.arba.net
Other advantages of joining ARBA is the opportunity to register your rabbit upon it being examined and declared free of disqualifications from showing and a recorded 3 generation pedigree. You will receive a Registration certificate which you can place with its' pedigree. Selling a registered rabbit gives a boost of confidence to the buyer that the animal passed an ARBA registrar scrutiny.
When showing, the rabbit can win Grand Champion legs, these are papers that after your rabbit wins 3 qualifying legs can go on to be recognized as a Grand Champion. You then take the 3 legs and with the registration number and small fee are able to receive a Grand Champion numbered certificate. Put that with the pedigree or frame it! You can also obtain Best in Show certificates if your rabbit is fortunate enough to win that too.
You can also register your Rabbitry Name with corresponding certificate.
To hold an office in local, regional or specialty clubs or to be a show secretary you must be an ARBA member. Being a member allows you to show at the annual ARBA Convention which is the "Westminster" of Rabbit Shows.
