I receive the District 8 newsletter that Terry Fender puts out and am amazed to see so many shows happening in December. We've never had a December show in District 7. I don't know where they find the time. Though it would be a great last chance for showing June babies or for accumulating end-of-year sweepstakes points. Terry's newsletter is worth signing up for whether you are in his zone or not. Contact him at: [email protected]
Speaking of the New Year, one of my favorite things to do is go to an annual antiques show New Year's Day and also breed up does to start the New Year off right. A few of my best does were born Jan. 31st last year as a result of those breedings. With the convention being so much closer in PA in 2013, it is driveable and I won't have to worry about flying the rabbits or limited kennel space. So it is time to HOP TO IT and get everybunny working out there. From the way they've all been acting, both the does and bucks won't mind.
I heard from a bunny owner that got her bucks neutered so that they can bond with the spayed does she has. After housing them near each other, each doe chose her own mate, not necessarily in the pairings that she'd expected them to choose. The does chose who they wanted to be near by showing a great interest in one buck but not another. Or even rebuffing a potential beau. The does would get as close as possible to their chosen one, laying down beside them on the other side of the divider. Or if running around loose, immediately going to that one's cage and sniffing noses and then laying beside them. Like us, they all have their own personalities and know what/who they want. They are amazing little creatures that convey so much without saying one word.
Happy Holidays and Safe Travels to everyone!
