I've posted this hint before this time of year but thought I would again for new readers. The little wooden crates those Halo tangerines come in are great temporary quarters for baby bunnies when you are cleaning their nestboxes. Put some shavings and a bit of hay in the wooden box before transferring them. Surely they will pee the minute they feel that unfamiliar territory underneath them that doesn't quite smell like "home". Keep the nesting fur you want to reuse off to the side, safe and dry. The babies not cold shavings too. This time of year shavings likely will be cold if stored in unheated barns. To the bunnies it feels no different than you getting out of a warm bed and your feet touching a cold floor. Brrrr... You can spread shavings in a pan in front of a sunny window and let them warm up while you check on other bunnies.
This time of year is slow - rabbit activity-wise. A good time to get caught up on pedigrees whether you use a computer program or the old fashioned handwritten pedigrees. Make new cage card signs. Update doe and show records. Bring in water/feed dishes for a good cleaning in the kitchen sink. There is always something to do taking care of our furry little charges. The bunnies sure keep US hopping!
