He talks about the crowded showrooms and staking out an area, preferably near friends. How all the showroom noise and activity can make your animal anxious or upset. The comraderie of others showing in your group that insist on finding the local Cheesecake Factory to go to for dinner after the show. There is getting a "Q" for a successful run which means not going off course and finishing within the alloted time. It doesn't necessarily get you a placement ribbon, just means you weren't disqualified. Get 3 "Q's" and you move up. Kind of like getting 3 grand champion legs to make a grand champion and it goes up to higher status and tougher competition.
On particularily cold mornings his having to drag himself out of bed instead of deciding to skip the show. Getting a reluctant animal out of its kennel cage. The decision to show on the second day because your animal did so well the first day. Which is a decision for us rabbit exhibitors when the rabbit is in prime fur (about 2 weeks out of the year), getting close to a GC or does having to be bred before another show rolls around.
Talking to your animals while en route or returning home. His going outside the showroom to discreetly do his happy dance after a particularly exciting win so others wouldn't see how "unhumble" he was. Myself, I prefer the Ladies Room so the outdoor smokers don't bust you. Anyway, it was amusing to read about exhibitors of other animals going thru the same ups and downs that we do. Not to mention the crazy things we put ourselves thru for a $.50 ribbon. Which I don't even pick up anymore. Woops, busted!
