BBF's Bubble Butt Barbie had a huge litter of 7 and has the appetite to prove it. Salmon's Sea Star, the blue eyed white Netherland Dwarf doe I purchased at convention has a litter. One is a sport and two are blue eyed whites. Finally some blue eyes! Or so I thought, till I looked further and discovered one of them has the dreaded frog legs. Sigh.... well at least one BEW finally!
It's Derby Day and I'll be recording all the backstories and race to watch later. A horse with Maine ties is in the running for the first time in 45 years. Union Rags owned by artist and part time Maine resident, Jamie Wyeth's wife. She had sold him as a yearling on her accountant's advice as a business decision though she didn't want to. She regretted it so much she bought him back as a 2 yr old for three times what she'd sold him for. Matz is his trainer who had trained the ill fated Barbaro. I will be cheering for him but my 2nd pick is Bodemeister. He never raced as a 2 yr old but has had a great 3 yr old record. He is ridden by my favorite jockey, Mike Smith and has Baffert as his trainer, triple threat there. Alpha can't be counted out as a Godolphin entry, the recent winner of the pretigious Wood Memorial. AND it will be great to see a rare all white colt run too, Hansen. He should be easy to spot! Genetically, I think the white thoroughbreds are genetically akin to our false whites (broken white) and not a truly pure white horse like a Lippizan. Yup, even when I am talking my first love, horses, it somehow leads back to rabbits!
