We complain about gas prices down here but it is more expensive in Canada where it is sold by the liter at $1.19. It is the equivalent of about $5.00 per gallon. We arrived about 6:30 p.m., " their time", as you lose an hour when crossing the border. The Island Rabbit Club had the showroom open and conveniently set up so those who chose to could put their animals on tables for the night. That was a lot easier than unloading at the motel and reloading in the morning. We checked every bunny over, none the worse after the long ride of about 9 1/2 hrs. We fed them their supper and went out for ours.
The Sat. double show was judged by Derek Poole, NY and Morgan Schultz, VA. It was the Island club's biggest show so far with 260 entered per show. They have just 3 shows a year on PEI. There was a silent auction, youth showmanship contest and Youth bunny costume class. I got to judge the latter with Morgan. Eight cutely dressed bunnies with their hopeful handlers. First prize went to a ND Sunflower, yes try to picture it! Second was a lop in farmer coveralls and miniature John Deere cap complete with ear holes. Other cute entries were a harem doe, a star sparkled wizard and a hula girl bunny.
Hollands were one of the larger entries. Before judging I got to go over Brian MacInnis' holland juniors and seniors, he has a good start. Also saw Frank's BEW ND's, cutey little ears. It is neat to see what breeds are popular in different areas. Minirex entry was big, I saw a lot of Dutch, some Cals and quite a few ND's. I did see more NZW's than are shown in Maine and found out afterwards that they all belonged to one family! Exhibitors came from Nova Scotia and Quebec.
I entered 5 classes and got 3 legs in each. YEAH! The first show BBF's Rozalynn took SSD; BBF's 13D got his second SJB leg and BBF's Gemstone got her 2nd SJD leg and BOS. In the second show Cowan's Frasier took BOB and 2nd Reserve in Show; BBF's 1F took SJB and BBF's Hot Button got BOG. Rozalynn missed her possible 3rd leg when she missed her class, shoot!
When the show is over, everyone stays put as no BIS/RIS awards are announced until the showroom has been cleaned and everything put away. Gee, maybe that would get things cleaned up quicker at the Maine shows?!! Certificates were given for all BOB/BOS wins and trophies for BIS/RIS and Runner-Ups. Brian took BIS with Cowan's Frank in Show A. A beautiful Dutch shown by a youth took BIS in Show B. More to come.....
