Over the years, I've shared hints and info with author Bob Bennett which he has put in his Bucks & Dough$ magazine. Raising Rabbits has been republished many times including an updated version. The publisher has asked Bob to write a "How To" book on Rabbitries. Bob requested photos and info from several rabbit raisers including myself. I had taken photos from the ground work up when we built ours in 1990. Hopefully they will be able to glean some good photos. This past week, Bob sent me the draft of an article on Blackberry Farm Rabbitry which will be one of the featured rabbitries in the upcoming book. How fun and exciting is that! When it becomes available, I'll blog it here.
When I started with rabbits, there wasn't a lot of good informative rabbit raising books out there. Mainly there was what you can get from ARBA, Rabbit Production by Cheeke/Patton and Raising Rabbits the Modern Way by Bob Bennett. There are a lot of pet rabbit books out there, many with misinformation unfortunately. I read author Bob Bennett's book and basically called it my rabbit bible as it gave me lots of info on a variety of things. Bob is another New Englander, being from Vermont. After several years in rabbits, gaining knowledge through actual rabbit keeping and showing, I co-edited New England Rabbit Lore magazine. I like to write and share info. The magazine was very informative and enjoyed by rabbit folks from all over the U.S. We had several hundred subscribers. It was a struggle to make enough off subscriptions and advertising to get it printed and mailed. We basically broke even each time and held our breath for the next issue not to go in the hole. I did that for a few years until I went back to full time work and couldn't give it the attention I felt it deserved. I have originals and am thinking of compiling a few "Best Of NERL" issues. Most articles would still be relevant today, rabbits are still rabbits.
