Another first time mom this week, Sunflower, was one fussy eater last week except for all the grass I could pick for her. Funny how they are sometimes. I worried about the expected babies since she wasn't eating much, but the babies seem fine. She is okay too and eating up most everything in sight. Good thing as it would be much harder this week to dig under the snow to find grass to pick.
Don't forget this time of year that you can warm up nestboxes with those microwavable rice bags. I've set a tray of shavings in the window that gets a lot of sun to "preheat" the shavings if needed for a nestbox. It's better than chilly feeling shavings directly from the shavings bag. You could keep some shavings in your house if that isn't an option.
Now is a good time to adjust the fan's timers in your rabbitries. We are no longer running the front louver fan but the rear fan stays on 24/7 except in extreme extended cold temps. Then we adjust it to shut off from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Other than that it is running steady on low.
Also don't forget when the forecast is for snow or ice put up a few gallons of water for your animals. If the power goes off and you rely on a water pump and not town/city water, you'll be glad you prepared.
