I hadn't been to this show for many, many years. Actually only attended twice. Figured since I haven't gone to many shows this year, wasn't going to the Ft. Worth convention show and had a few juniors I could take, why not go? The juniors were a bit young but with only one other show this year before most turn senior, it made sense to take them. Placings were up, down and all around on the juniors as they were shown under 4 different judges. For the most part I was pleased with their placements, several in the top 5. Considering they were much younger than most on the table that was good.
Wyeth placed 4th, 2nd twice and took a 1st place and Best Opposite Broken. Considering the competition and his coat condition (not prime) those were great placements. Alder took 2nd solid senior buck in the specialty show. Oribella missed out on her 3rd grand champ leg placing so close with a 2nd.
There were a lot of Holland Lop exhibitors with many Hollands for sale. If it were spring when everyone has cabin fever for new stock, likely most would have been sold. Since winter was pending, few sold except for some pre-solds. When you see a broken chestnut agouti winning a class and a solid chestnut agouti placing 2nd and then not selling, that says something. People that are interested in the agouti pattern are always on the lookout for good quality in those colors. Just a bad time of year to sell, some potential buyer sure lost out on those bucks.
There was plenty of room to set up, lots of raffle tables, a large equipment dealer display and many new folks to talk with. The hotel we stayed at was next door to an authentic Italian restaurant that had it own little garden. The drive down and back went smoothly and we had a good time. I'll likely go to NY next year as convention is once again far away, Portland, Oregon . I've been to Portland, Oregon twice before, so you never know....
Now waiting for news from this year's convention attendees in Ft. Worth.
