The plastic sheeting that protects the tables on which the two-high stackables sit (see home page) is stripped off and replaced with new plastic. Plexiglass back and side dividers are powerwashed and dried outside. Tables are tipped over and cobweb removal done and the floor underneath is swept. I don't know what is going on this year but it seems cobwebs are more abundant. Usually a few urine guards need to be replaced which slows things down. Then the cages are brought back in and placed on the tables. Bunny name tags put back on the cages, food and water dishes replaced and finally the bunnies are "back home again". In between, I am usually clipping some toenails, grooming some coats and generally giving every bunny the once over. It is quite a production and takes the two of us hours.
I usually change a few bunnies around into a different row or different cage location. Some bunnies prefer to be in the top cage, some prefer the bottom cage, some prefer an end cage or like to be near the busy areas or the more quiet back area. Taking those preferences into consideration can make them more comfortable and happy.
Walking around afterwards is almost like having some new rabbits when seeing them in a different spot. All and all, it is so satisfying to see every cage thoroughly clean and know you have completed an undertaking that is good for your rabbits and satisfying to you!
Tomorrow's weather forecast isn't so great, so the other half of the rabbitry will have to wait. Hopefully there are more sunny fall weekend days ahead.
