Then when I woke up this a.m., glanced at the clock and thought of what I'd be doing at that moment in Wichita if I were there. I'd be hurrying around a crowded, extremely noisy showroom, unlocking coops, seeing if they'd eaten well during the night, refilling food and water dishes, doing a pick thru the shavings, checking for soiled bunny butts, sighing heavily if there were some to be cleaned and a little anxiety would be creeping in on thoughts of how they might behave on the show table. Would they sit still, would they pose easily, would they get placed in back for a second, third or fourth look? Would they get a number placement? Convention adrenalin rushes are awesome. Considered by some to be an aerobic workout for your heart.
Yesterday Maine's 64 degree weather (warmer than Kansas, haha) was great for cleaning pans and picking up the last of the outdoor garden ornaments. We expect strong winds from Hurricane Sandy on Tuesday, so the deck table and chairs were packed away til Spring. Awards and raffle items needed for the Nov. 10th Newport Show are neatly stacked together.
I'm sure there will be more Facebook posts, more emails and more cam-watching over the next few days. Before you know it, (usually just as you're finally remembering which rows your animals are cooped in) everyone will be packing up for the long ride home, which I do not envy. Best of luck to those attending, congrats to the winners and safe travels home. And you darn sure better be telling me EVERYTHING when you get back home!
