BBF's Alder - (above) is by Cowan's Frasier and out of Cowan's Topaz born 6/14/2012. He has a fat round head and chubby cheeks. He now has more width to his crown that helped his nicely substanced ears. He's an overall nice bodied buck with good bone. His older brother is Gunslinger. Loves his forehead rubbed. Alder lived to be 10 1/2 years old.
BBF's Wizard
BBF's Wizard at 8 wks.
BBF's Wizard - This tort buck is by Cowan's Oscar and the only baby from BBF's Over the Rainbow.
The photo on left was taken at 8 weeks, his definition of crown is pretty nice for that age and he is cheeky too. I like it when they have that nice line of fur going across the ear right by the eye showing great width of crown. He has a solid body too.
The judges and spectators "got to see the Wizard" as he won his first SJB class - 7/14/12!
Here are his Senior boy photos below. He has matured nicely, fantastic crown definition, nice length of ears and good substance.

BBF's Chester
BBF's Chester as a young Senior.
BBF's Chester is a broken tort buck that has come back home to stay. His sire is Antonioni's Charles (on memorial page) and BBF's Collette, a pretty little sablepoint.
He won a Best B/C Leg a week after returning from the Indy ARBA Convention where he placed 16th in a huge class of 93. He is one of those "easy litter picks" as he had a softball size head from the git-go.
The photos say it all with Chester. He has a HUGE mucho macho man head and close to the cheek ears.
FLASH!! - Chester wins Reserve in Show 4/27/2013 at Newport, Maine show. Yippee!
ANOTHER FLASH - Chester wins Best in Show 5/19/2013 at the Maine State RBA Show held during the New England Livestock Expo in Windsor, ME.

Cowan's Medicine Man
Cowan's Medicine Man
Cowan's Medicine Man - His tattoo is MD, hence the name Medicine Man. He is a blue tort buck son of Cowan's Topaz and Cowan's Levi. He used to duke it out with Oliver on the show table whenever they were shown at the same show. Usually Oliver won, but not always. Until they came to Blackberry Farm, I could hardly tell them apart. Once they were here and living side by side, I could tell the difference. Medicine Man is a slightly different shade of blue tort from Oliver.
Medicine Man is a retired grand champion. He loves having his big brow rubbed and enjoys just seeing you in front of his cage. He likes to throw a fuzzy lop every now and then. Always pointing his paw at the baby momma, like it is all her fault. We love him anyway.

BBF's Latham
BBF's Latham at 15 mos.
BBF's Latham - Tort buck born 1/31/2012 out of Cowan's Topaz with dad Cowan's Frasier. His littermate sisters are on the Doe page (Gemstone & Blue Sapphire) and littermate brother is Gunslinger. A repeated breeding brought along brother Alder (born 6/14/12).
Sometimes you just have to wait things out. That is how it's been with several young senior bucks. And I know it's the same for many other HL breeders. You see those cutie-pie 5 week old faces and by the time they are weanlings it has all but disappeared. Or there at weaning and disappears during teenage (3-4 mos.) uglies. Many promising bucks get sold during this time. I've done that before and have no doubt I'll do it again. You wait for ears to go down, for the crown to widen so those short ears can get around the round cheeks to lay flat. Wait for the shoulders or hindquarters to fill out. They don't always develop uniformally. Their growing energy may be directed to their head development one time, to their bodies another time.
It can take a long time for a buck to send his growing pains in the right direction. Latham still needs some crown width to get his ears down better and by then the ear opening should be level with his eye.
My favorite feature of Latham's is his very pronounced brow and shortness of face. His fur is quite dense too, even on his ears.

BBF's Franco - 23F - Solid Tortoise Senior Buck - born 4/3/13
Sire: Cowan's Frasier Dam: BBF's Gemstone
He is the one buck that I kept back from that big litter of 8 survivors (originally a litter of 11).
Nice overall buck, great thick bone, absolutely no ear control on this guy. Terrific head for a 1 year old buck when this photo was taken, wrap-around strong crown, open ears, fantastic bone.

BBF's Hot Cider
BBF's Hot Cider is all BBF lines on the dam's side and LOV lines on the sire's side. He did well as a junior winning two Best of Breeds. Then sat out for a while, coming back as a year old senior winning more BOB/BOS's and taking 2 Reserve in Shows. Afterwards I wanted to rename him "Hot Lava" as he was ALWAYS MOLT-EN.
He has a very pronounced crown with good depth and width and strictly vertical ears. A well rounded head and very good bone.

Cowan's Oliver
Cowan's Oliver is the nicest HL buck I have not only the pleasure of meeting but owning. He had done a lot of winning while in the Cowan herd with BIS's and a big BOB win at a Feb. PA convention. After I purchased him he never left the barn. He was is too valuable to risk just for sweeps/quality points. He was a beautiful blue tort color.
Pics of Oliver just don't do him justice. Blame the photographer!

Cowan's Oscar
Cowan's Oscar at 2 years old
Cowan's Oscar - Here is a Cowan's Oliver son resulting from linebreeding Oliver back to his mom Cowan's Anne Miller. He had a very strong, burly head. At left he is praying that he can behave himself on the show table at the February 2012 Cumberland Show. His prayers weren't answered as he didn't quite behave himself but my prayers were answered when he still won Best in Show.
Oscar placed 25th out of 119 at the Ohio HLRSC Nationals and then moved up to 14th out of 176 at the Indy ARBA convention. .
Oscar was a very active buck which made him a challenge to show.
He is the sire of BBF's All That Jazz and BBF's Wizard on this buck page.

BBF's Hot Button
BBF's Hot Button - 10 mos. old
BBF's Hot Button - This little guy was very compact. He won the broken jr buck class at the Midnight Madness show in 2011. He sat out for almost a year to develop more to be able to compete against the bigger boys. His littermate is on the Rabbits Living Elsewhere page, BBF's Hot Commodity, who is larger.
Showed "Button" with the big boys at Acton 6/2/12 taking BOSG. "Button" wins BOG at the CCRBA 2012 Late Night show making his 3rd leg win for Grand Champion! Another Best Broken win at 2012 PEI. Took 2 BSB classes at 2012 Midnight Madness and a Best Broken title. Another win - Hot Button won Best of Breed at the 11/10/12 EMRBA Annual Fall Show! Yeah!
Add another win - Hot Button won Best of Breed at the 8/3/2013 Midnight Madness Show B!
Feb. 2014 - CCRBA Winter Show - 1st place Broken Sr Buck. This makes his 9th Grand Champion Leg under 8 DIFFERENT judges!!
7/12/14 Island RBA - Prince Edward Island, CA - Button takes BOSG in BOTH shows - 11 GC Legs/10 Different Judges!

BBF's Gemstone
BBF's Gemstone aka "Gemmy" at 3 1/2 mos.
BBF's Gemstone - "Gemmy" had it "going on" as my Virginia friend Panny would say. She had a nice profile of both head and body. Her sister, BBF's Blue Sapphire is pictured below.
"Gemmy" won Best Solid at the 6/2 Acton show, her first G.C. Leg. She won her second leg at the July Prince Edward Island Canadian show with Best Opposite of Breed. Though I'd have loved to get her 3rd leg to Grand Champ her out, it was more important for her to be a mom.
Forget buying a Mega-Bucks ticket - Gemmy is a MEGA-DOE - Unbelievable! Gemmy kindled ELEVEN babies by Frasier. She is raised 6 of them and 2 are fostered with Cobweb's singleton. One is Franco.

BBF's Blue Sapphire
BBF's Blue Sapphire at 3 1/2 mos.
BBF's Blue Sapphire - A blue tort doe out of Topaz's litter of 7 with Frasier. Her sister is BBF's Gemstone. This doe had a super smooth wide body and nice profile. Her crown was deep and well defined, it could be more forward. Nice color and fur. You put your hands on her and it was just WOW! She was just a great doe.
Sapphire won BOB in both CCRBA Night shows at 5 mos. old AND took home Best Reserve in Show B. Sapphire won BOSG 8/4/12, 3rd leg champs her out.
Sapphire produced a really nice broken tort buck with Cowan's Tucker. He is BBF's Wyeth below.

BBF's Wyeth T39 B/C Tort Buck - Born 4/29/2013. His mom is BBF's Sapphire and dad is Cowan's Tucker.
Compare his 4 1/2 mo. photo to his 10 mo. old photo and see how much the bucks change over time.
His son is BBF's Raisin Cain and grandson is BBF's Dapple Dan.
Wyeth placed at the Harrisburg, PA ARBA Rabbit Breeder's Convention. In the broken junior buck class of 94 with 50 exhibitors he placed 21st! Wyeth won Best of Breed and Reserve in Show at the Cumberland Fair 9-21-14 giving him 5 legs under 4 different judges. Another judge, another leg. Wyeth won Best Opp Broken at the NY Grand Finals.
Sadly we lost Wyeth in the summer of 2015 of unknown causes.

Cowan's Tucker
Cowan's Tucker - Tucker attended two HLRSC Nationals placing 15th BSB at one and 5th place BSB at another. In between he champed out with 4 legs under 4 different judges.
He had a nicely sculptured head and extremely strong definition of crown and very open ears. Great short bone too.
His son, Rocka-Fella lives in Iowa with this same nicely defined crown and big brow. Shortly before losing Wyeth, we lost Tucker. Two blows in a short period of time.

Cowan's Frasier
Cowan's Frasier
dowan's Frasier - has the tattoo of FS which we teased his breeder, Barry about that it stood for For Sale. He did have him for sale one time but changed his mind. Frasier was one of those bucks that looked nice as a junior then kind of stalled for a while in his growth. Some bucks like that never come out of it and forever remain what we call "Peter Pan's". Others will suddenly start developing all over again and pay off for those with patience as it can take up to a couple of years.
Frasier, though he has remained on the small side, has come into his own. He is quite the showman. At Indy Convention he posed all week in his top cage garnering attention. On show day, he continued to pose in the holding pen behind the table and on the table until he placed 9th out of 166. He weighed in at only 3.05, the smallest in the top 15. Most other bucks weighed closer to the 4 lb. mark. It was a long ride to Indy, 5 days there, long ride home again but just 9 days later.. he won BIS and RIS at the last show of the season in Maine.
In 2012, Frasier had been BOS to his daughter twice, BOB twice, a Reserve in Show and a 2nd Runner Up for BIS.

Cowan's James Dean - I hadn't gotten a chance to post a photo and short text on this herd buck. He is one of the bucks I was fortunate enough to purchase with the big group of others as Ft Cowan's herd was being dispersed. "Jimmy" is a funny little guy who loves his food.
He was a nice overall buck with a tremendous head which he threw. He won 9 legs under 8 different judges. Some of his kids are J.T.; J.D. and Jewel all carried on his blue tort color and great head shape..
His super dense fur coat led to long molts with lots of combing.

BBF's Patriot
BBF's Patriot was one of my old herd bucks who lived to 9 years of age before passing this summer (2013). His goal was to be a house bunny and to stay as close to "his doe/me" as he could. He had a stroke this spring which we worked to help him recover from. Fortunately he pulled through and was able to enjoy some foot stomping for several months afterwards.
He had a good show career including a Best in Show win. He is the bunny in the grass on this web site banner.
Sadly, we will miss his chubby face.

Antonioni's Charles was a wonderful addition to the BBF herd when Teri Antonioni let me purchase him at the KY ARBA Convention. He was named for the stodgy Charles Emerson Winchester of M.A.S.H. fame but at the same time was a "charlie" that threw all brokens, though all were marked well. He also threw a couple of fuzzies but we won't talk about that. Antonioni's Charles is the father of BBF's Chester above along with some other nice animals. Sad to say, I lost Charles just after Convention short of his 6 year birthday.
LOV's Red Hot Chili Pepper was bred by Ardis Hartwig and Tim Waddel, CA. They let me talk them out of a very cute jr buck at the Ft. Worth convention and I am ever thankful to them. His tattoo was REDHOT and he was! I got many nice show animals from him. Most of his kids names start with the word HOT. He was very affectionate, always wanting my attention. If I let him run around the rabbitry while I cleaned cages, he would run around and investigate everywhere. When he deemed all was in order he would lay flat on his tummy with legs outstretched behind him like a frog in whatever aisle I was working in. When this wasn't close enough, he would plant himself between my feet and lay down. If I walked around he would cross in front of me and circle around. His sons were BBF's Hot Cider, BBF's Hot Button and BBF's Hot Commodity.
BBF's Woochee had the cutest personality, you can tell by just how coy he is in this photo. He was mostly all BBF lines with some REW line breeding on the top line. He was one of those bucks that you sell that you should have kept. He had a tremendous brow and depth of crown. He was from many years back in my breedings but such a great photo, I had to include it.
