BBF's Jack Frost - Ruby Eyed White Buck
BBF's Raisin Cain - Born 7/10/14 - Mom is BBF's Addy (a BBF's Alder daughter) and Dad is BBF's Wyeth. He is also a triple Cowan's Frasier great-great grandson. He is one of the chunkiest bucks I've ever raised. Love his short wide body and his bone is his strongest trait. A real apple head. Depending on his mood, he does well if he poses or middle of classes if he is feeling lazy. The day after the 2016 Ohio Nationals he placed 2nd in a very large competitive class. He is the dad of several BBF herd bucks.
BBF's Dapple Dan (aka The Pie) - Broken Sablepoint Buck born 9/12/15 - Mom is Raffle-Ella Dad is Raisin Cain. His nickname, The Pie, is because of his piebald marked ears (think National Velvet's The Pie).
Super nice buck with a great head, good crown and very good substance to his ears. Nice bone, well filled body and a butt that goes right to the table.

BBF's Over the Top
BBF's Over the Top at 10 weeks old.
BBF's Over the Top - Born 4/10/2012 - Tort buck out of BBF's Pepper Girl and Cowan's Oliver - Siblings from a previous litter, BBF's Over the Moon (further down the page) & BBF's Over the Rainbow.
I think the smaller litters have the advantage of a better start most of the time. They can mature quicker into miniature versions of themselves and don't have as prolonged an ugly duckling phase as a big litter of 6 or more. At his first shows he placed 3rd & 4th out of 18 SJB's.
His depth of crown and very open ear eventually balanced out. He has nice short, thick, tree stump legs, smooth body and good fur.
HINT - For those new to Hollands and as a reminder to us who have been around for a while... compare the photo on the left below of Topper at just under 4 mos. of age to his 1 yr AND 4 mos. photos on right. What a difference a year makes!! Look at the lower muzzle development along with more leg bone mass. Oftentimes we are comparing the young jr bucks to their older senior fathers and they just don't stack up. We panic thinking the sire will not produce as well if not better than himself, so we don't keep the junior bucks long enough. Or worse, we sell the dad as well. So... when looking at that promising junior buck that you fell in love with in the nestbox, ask yourself this question. Does it have a WEAKNESS like narrow shoulders or undercut hindquarters or is it simply a LACK of DEVELOPMENT? If you could pump him up with a bicycle tire pump, would it enhance good qualities that are there or would it accentuate poor or problem areas? Good gets better, bad gets worse.
FLASH - "Topper wins Best in Show at the New England Livestock Expo - WMRBA - 5/19/13
Another good win - Topper wins the Solid Sr Buck class and Best Solid at Midnight Madness Show B - 8/3/13

I hadn't shown Wizard for quite some time, so brought him out of mothballs for the Cumberland Fair show (September 21, 2014).
He is so active, showing isn't his favorite thing, too many distractions on the show table. He did behave himself long enough to win the solid senior buck class and Best Solid. |
